I like the lines. Cantrell doesn't have a problem with faith... just FEAR. As in that myth of hell fire... which began as sheol in the Old Testament, and mythology kept heating hell up til it became a place of eternal torment. Only religious leaders like those under the mediaeval Church would dream up torturing souls, by roasting them over open flames. Man's design, not a god's. So, I do agree, that their god is an imaginary god. Its not the god of love they profess. I will proclaim one further. I believe in the true God, the living God, a God that has infinite love, wisdom and compassion... not that twisted mythology taught by modern christianity. I do not know their gods nor do I desire to.

"Man In The Box," may have been released in the 1990's. Layne Staley died of a heroin overdose in 2000's.
I'm sure he was feeling like a challenge to God... obviously he had serious problems, who should judge tho, because the man is dead. Big loss, because I REALLY liked his vocals.
Anyway, strange video. Some assume it to be "Anti Christ" but I don't see it that way. I see it merely as Jacob, wrestling with God, or Jesus asking "Father, why have you forsaken me" and other examples of people, daring to challenge God.
Jesus appears at the end of the video with his eyes sewn shut.
That's how Layne probably felt... abandoned, as if Jesus fails to see the pain and suffering... but what Layne did not understand, and the church failed to teach properly, is that one must have faith in GOD, not the church! not its greedy televangelists, not even the Bible, which has been edited, and re-edited, and heretical books added and dismissed by church leaders... faith not in men, but in God alone.... and let God personally, one on one do the teaching, and guiding, and healing. Layne did not understand this, and God let him die a death by heroin overdose.
Most so-called christians I know, would flip their nose up in the air at a heroin addict. "I would not associate with such filth!" they would arrogantly boast. And what would Jesus do? Jesus would extend his hand to the drug addict. I don't know many true Christians in this day and age. They follow a very strange god.
